WE ASK ARTIST, SINGER & ACTRESS, BRITTNEY CRUSH, ABOUT HER STYLE, MUSIC AND OF COURSE, PRESS ON NAILS.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into music?
I kickstarted my career as an independent recording artist about 6 years ago and have been actively pursuing my dream since then. I’d describe my musical style as urban contemporary, pop.
Best and worst parts about a career in music?
Worst part would absolutely be the pressure. When I think about what’s driving me to achieve my dreams in this industry, it’s the pressure I put on myself (as well as a healthy dose from friends and family!). So you have to have resilience and drive to get through all that.
But on the bright side, the best bit about this industry is when it all comes together, like when things start falling into place, just how you’d planned, and you have that moment where you suddenly realise what the struggle has been for.
Advice for girls like you, coming through?
Don't be too hard on yourself and remember to always do what gives you the most peace. And pray about everything.
What’s a typical day for you like?
Usually I wake up, pray, manifest and plan my day early on then from there it’s either a day of project planning, working out, a show day or family time and errands.
Are you a night owl or early riser?
Night owl, hands down.
Who inspires you? Do you have a fashion or music muse?
In terms of vocal ability and song writing I’d have to say my ultimate muse is would be Jazmine Sullivan. For fashion inspo and overall icon vibes, Jennifer Lopez has always been my go-to.
Tell us a bit about your first experience using press on nails
The first time I tried press ons, was circa 2000. I was with my big sister and I only really did my left hand. I guess I hadn't graduated to the level of doing both hands myself yet! The nails were French tips, I believe.
Do you have a favorite thing about wearing them?
I love how I am able to be so versatile and change up my look and the nails so frequently and to do so without any pain or inconvenience.
Diving deeper into your beauty routine, talk us through your everyday regimen and some of the products you swear by.
My skin is super sensitive so I'm a strong believer in finding products that I know won’t make me have a break out. Right now, I am using a face wash from La Roche-Posay. Timeless beauty products that I’ve always adored include Mac's Oyster Girl Lipglass, Ben Nye Banana Powder, Benefits They're Real Mascara and your everyday beauty supply store clear lip gloss.
How does your beauty routine change when you’re performing?
SET SET SET! I get oily so setting my face, so it can last through those bright lights, is absolutely the key.
Any fave nail trends?
I tend to go through phases with nail shapes. At one point I really loved long coffin nails that were narrow shaped. Now I’ve started experimenting with cute short nail tips and nude or clear glossy nails (which I despised before!). My all-time favorite nail trend, though, will forever be a classic French tip or bright and colorful airbrushed designs.
We loved your performance at Staples Center on August 1. When can we expect to see you next?
Very soon! Actually I will be performing in Warner Center Park California for their Concerts on the Green series, this coming August 18th. Stay tuned and keep an eye out for all the details via my website: Brittneycrush.com.
